Chiller Renovations

Dodd Hall Chiller Renovations
The Ohio State University, Wexner Medical Center Campus
Columbus, Ohio

The Problem

OSU needed to replace two 242-ton centrifugal chillers on their medical campus.

The Solution

GTC worked in the fully occupied hospital to complete a state administered design-build within a phased construction plan. Not only did GTC complete the project as outlined, we helped save costs by scheduling our installation in stages to avoid the need for a temporary chiller during construction.

Our Installation Included
  • Demolition and design of new doors to the mechanical rooms
  • Replacement of the building’s two centrifugal chillers
  • Retrofit of the new chillers for cooling towers
  • Reconnection of existing chilled water and condenser piping
  • New refrigerant monitoring system, primary pumps, and building automation controls
  • Electrical work to connect chillers to existing power, including new switches, fuses and wiring
